Build Upon A Rock“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
– Matthew 7:24-27
No matter how hard you try, you will never be perfect. You will falter and you will fail.
It is important to recognize our failures, earnestly ask for forgiveness from God, and move forward rooted in the live-saving grace of Jesus Christ. This is what Jesus spoke about when He gave us the parable of the “wise and foolish builders” found in the verses above.
The “rock” on which the house is built is the life-saving grace of Jesus Christ. The “rain and winds” include the sins that surround us and afflict us each day. What Jesus instructs us to do in this passage is to avoid building our house – our lives – on the “sand” of things that are immoral and do not bring glory to God.
One way we can do this is to heed the God-given counsel of the apostle Paul when he said,
“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.” – Philippians 4:8-9
Today, ask God to help you build your life the strength and love of His Son, Jesus the Christ.
