When I Say "I'm a Christian"

I'm not shouting "I'm clean livin." I'm whispering "I was lost," Now I'm found and forgiven. When I say..."I am a Christian" I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need CHRIST to be my guide. When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not trying to be strong. I'm professing that I'm weak and need HIS strength to carry on. When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and need God to clean my mess. When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not claiming to be perfect, My flaws are far too visible but, God believes I am worth it. When I say... "I am a Christian" I still feel the sting of pain, I have my share of heartaches So I call upon His name. When I say... "I am a Christian" I'm not holier than thou, I'm just a simple sinner who received God's good grace, somehow.

May I just point out (to commenters) that this is a circulating poem, not something original from the poster.
Not that she or we can't agree with these sentiments, but the credit for the words is due elsewhere ...
After quick searching, this poem is modified from one written by Carol Wimmer in 1988.

Yes it was originally written by Carol Wimmer and then someone else recirculated it with a few tweeks with the wording. I do enjoy both versions but agree the credit should be given where it is due.

Thank God You posted this story. It is soooo hard to witness to people who have come across self righteous people who profess to be Christian. So Very Happy with EVERYTHING you said!

I love the way you just said what you said about not being holier than thou as some say. I too, was once lost and now I am found. Thank God that He came to save us. I think this website could be a great place to share our faith. There is a world full of hurting and lost people who need to know that God does love them just as He loves us. Thanks for the uplifting story!!!

90% of the population claims to be Christians ,but hardly any are Christ-like. The county stats for the county I live in 46,000
only 10,000 attend church regularly but most claim to be Christians. Still don't know about that?

I am a Christian though I am not always able to go to church on Sunday. I do agree that going or should I say "not forsaking the assembling of ourselves" does most def help to make me a stronger Christian in the right God led church but.....Just going to church I am sure you agree does not make me Christian.

Amen.

great post! it was a good reality check for me. thanks.

Beautiful reminder to us all. Thank you for the post.

Well said, what a beautiful gift you have in the Lord. I love the way you express in poetic rhymth to glorify His name and your walk with Him. Treasure your gift and continue to use it for God's glory.

It's refreshing. It gets somewhat tedious to hear people say they are Christian as if that makes them superior, you hear it all the time. Then in the next breath they are talking about doing highly unethical things, and my head spins in confusion.

Really enjoyed your story. Honest, forthright, sincere and revealing. One of my favourite saying's. " I"m not perfect, just forgiven".
