Blessed With A Christian Upbringing/life

I was blessed being born into a stable family with Christian parents who loved God and loved each other, in a suburban comminity south of Detroit.  My father worked on the railroad as a yardman, usually on the midnight shift, and my mother, for the mosst part was a stay at home Mom, who took an active part in the raising of 3 children: my sister 4 years older than me, and my twin brother.  They brought us up, even as babes in arms going to church regularly, and learning about God, as our heavenly Father, and Jesus as the Son of God and our savior.  I went regularly to Sunday school, Wednesday Bible study and VBS, and was brought up with a rich heritage of Bible stories, and accounts, with which I was taught were actual events and not just things made up to teach us lessons.  In ways, I can identify with Timothy of the New Testament, of which Paul spoke when he said, "and that from a child you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." (2 Tim.3:15). The faith of the Gospel was instilled in me during my youth in such a way, that I desired to become a minister of the Gospel of Christ, and later after graduating from high school. was sent by my parents to Freed-Hardeman College, where I began intensive study into the Word of God, beyond all that I had known growing up in church.  I was around thirteen, when I first responded to the gracious Gospel invitation, and was baptized into Christ.  I have never lived what some would consider a wild life--I had lived quite a sheltered life, but when I did get away from home, I did as most young people do--test the waters, I tried marijuana once, (and that stupidly in a work setting). I skinny-dipped on occassion, and some other things that I am not so proud of.  But God is gracious, and longsuffering and forgiving.  He allowed me to become a Preacher (or minister) and serve congregations in Kansas, Indiana and Arkansas.  I was blessed to serve my last congregation as minister in Bearden,AR where I staid 23 years [longer than any had ever done in the history of that congregation], before I moved to the New England area. Also along the way, I was blessed to be able to write many christian poems (and some sonmgs) also as an expression of my faith.  Many of my poems can be seen on my poetry webpage at http://www.poetrypoem.com/poetry1021/ called ECHOES OF THE HEART.

A few of my favorite verses, which I also feel are reflective of my life a a Christian are Romans 1:16-17/ and I Peter 5:7:

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also to the Greek. For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith, as it is written, 'the just shall live by faith.' "

"Casting all your cares upon Him, for He cares for you!"

God has blessed me in so many ways through out my life, starting with my godly parent, the privilege of studying the Bible with some great men of God, giving me Linda, my first wife, of 34 years until her death in 2005-- then by His awesome providence, bring me and Jane together, (as widow & widower) to bless us together as husband of wife, daily for over 3 years now.

May the LORD be praised for all His goodness and grace!  I close with a Biblical Benediction found in 2 Thess. 3:16,18:

"NOW MAY THE LORD OF PEACE HIMSELF GIVE YOU PEACE ALWAYS IN EVERY WAY. THE LORD BE WITH YOU ALL....THE GRACE OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST BE WITH YOU ALL. AMEN!"
