Trains, Planes & Elevators

I have not ridden an elevator in years.  I have missed doctor's appointments, avoided visiting people who live in tall buildings, skipped job interviews because of it.  I have no fear that the cables will break, or that I'll be trapped with someone evil.  I'm only afraid of being trapped.  Stuck.

I used to be able to take the subway, but now I can't do that either.  Maybe this will ruin my life.

i fear nothing, not even deep waters while swiming, i am sure i will not panic if i am left in a forest where loins, tigers and other animals are around......... BUT this **** elevator,,,,, i fear being stuck so i avoid using it. when light goes somtimes in a building, i thank myself that i was not in the elevator. I know i cant get out of this fear. However, i have no fear of being stuck in glass elevator where i can see the outside environment. I have no problem riding cable cars........ how can i get out of this. I live on the 4th floor and never use elevator.

Hi, I have the exact same problem, but not as severe. I can usually ride the elevator as long as I am not by myself, but it also depends on the size of elevator too. My mother was hospitalized and she was on the highest floor. I was going to take the stairs down but you needed a badge to get in and out of the stairwell. I had to ask a random stranger to ride the elevators with me, it was soo embarrasing that I went into the bathroom and cried. I just cannot help it; everytime I think of getting in an elevator I start breathing hard and panicking. When I tell people why I am so afraid of riding elevators, they laugh like it is a joke, but its not. I fear that I will get stuck and I won't be able to get out. It just sucks that many people do not understand.

i understand exactly how you feel. Reading your comments was like reading my own experience. If you find a good treatment facility, that helps you, please let know. I so would like to get over this fear and live a more fufilling life.
