Military Training

I'm an 18 year old female who is pushing to be a USAF S.E.R.E. I've stayed fairly active my entire life (dance/field hockey) but my upper body strength is lacking horribly!! To pass the SERE PAST (the physical test before you can even try to be a SERE) I have to do at least 6 tricep-styled pullups and I can't even do one. So one of my friends at the pool told me about how her dad started P90X and he could now do "oh-so-many pullups" and I thought it would be a great idea. So, I just bought it. My only major problem is snacking and motivation. It's not the motivation to complete the workout, but the motivation to actually START the workout. I know that this self-motivation is something I'm going to need for my military career anyways. I would like any advice on what motivates you. I will certainly appreciate anyone who gives me advice, but I would ask that if there are any military members reading this that you share your secret on self-motivation and how to just "suck it up and DO it". Thanks :)
