I Am Down the Rabbit Hole - Poems From "Recovery Road"
The wheel turns in a blink of an eye
One moment you are down low
The next instant you're up high.
An instant to hold on and grab tightly
Slipping, more often bruised from clenching
Climbing, they say, it's all part of the journey.
I have fallen in the rabbit hole countless times
And I can not seem to get it really
Like a seasoned crook adorned with crimes.
As the wheel turns I seem to get stuck
Don't have the oomph, don't have the zing
Quicksand pulling me down in the muck.
And even if you know you need to pull up
Even if you know you need to do something
Everything around seems to make you flop.
This may serve as a clue to something new
I open my eyes to see what's around
Trapped in the hole, the greyness of its hue.
Maybe I just need time and to just pause
Let the sand swallow the whole of me
In the rabbit hole, just because.
