    Hello slopeace,
I have been in your situation and I know exactly how you feel! When my husband was seriously hurt in a vehicle accident and ended up with brain & spine damage his medical costs shot through the roof, we were in financial ruins BUT before we decided to file bankruptcy we spent our last $350.00 on our credit card towards a home business that has blessed us today financially with security and all our bills paid off! This is just a thought for you, I realize you are going through some real tough times now BUT we are ever so grateful we made this move before we filed and had bankruptcy over our heads for a long time.
I have included the link and I wish you the very best and my prayers will be with you!

You will need to see an attorney. There are good and bad BK atty., go on line and get the one most are happiest with.

I am sorry your credit will be ruined. But if you are getting your husband's debt in a community property state, you may have no choice.

However, this is why you must consult with atty or go into a BK forum on line, there are many, Calif specific is necessary. You are going to first see if you are eligible. I left a husband and ended up in BK 13.

If your debt was acquired during your marriage, you need to consider the implications this has on your legal married state and do this accurately. Don't count on atty to remember everything. 1800 will be worth it. Sell something. Get a room mate or a PT job for several months. Nothing's fair anymore. Best is to try to come out without any more loss than you already have experienced.

Don't be embarrassed. This economy is difficult and so are people sometimes. It's hard not to end up paying huge for a poor judgment call. Best of luck. Take a friend or sister to court with you for strength. I found it very stressful and hope to never go through it again. personal details are laid out on the table (what you spend, what lifestyle is, strengths, weaknesses...ugh)
