I Am Facing Bankruptcy
I am still debating about filing. I am 45 and in the middle of a long divorce. I left my husband over a year and a half ago and basically lived off of my credit card for four months, used it as a retainer for lawyer fees, had to buy all new furniture, etc. We used to work together in real estate so I had to start from square one. My little boy just turned 6 so I am able to work more. I like my job but dont make a lot and am now in over $33K of credit card debt. I have never made a late payment or bounced a check. My soon to be ex filed last week and now I am also getting some of his bills. I met a bk lawyer to ask questions about his debt going to me and she asked why I wasnt filing. I basically go online and pay my credit card every time I have any extra money but with interest I cant get it down! Now with summer coming and summer camp/school costs I just dont know how to do it. I am one flat tire or doctor visit away from not making it. I am paying my childs health coverage and many things that my ex should be helping me with. Without the debt I could make it every month and maybe even save. I want to do whats best for my son. Has anyone used a company that just does the paperwork for you (we legal or those companies)? They are $200 as opposed to the $1800 the lawyer charges. Also, do I just stop paying my credit cards and open a new bank if I may do this? I have a low interest because I had great credit, so I know it will go sky high. Also, what do you have to pay back? I have been using my card basically to live on. The lawyer said they can fight the last 3 months of charges. Has anyone used a credit card consolodator or whoever helps lower your payment? It is really my only bill but I think they may be sketchy. Anyway, thank you for any help. I have been up at nights stressing! Oh, and I live in California if that makes a difference in the laws.
Thanks.
Thanks.
