Sometimes I'm Upset At Myself For Not Even Being Able To Speak Tagalog Or Ilocano

I'm full filipino but I can't even speak the language my parents speak which is mainly Ilocano and sometimes Tagalog when my parents meet someone who doesnt speak Ilocano. I wanted to learn so bad how to speak so that I can talk to my friends in the language and my family but when I try I sound so American it isn't even funny. xP I can understand some but I mean I want to be able to speak, and understand perfectly.

You can take Tagalog classes in your area, if you have one. Or better yet, try to acquaint more of yourself with Filipino literary pieces. I guess reading helps more. :-) I wish you well.

I know what you mean. I grew up in a community wherein the local dialect is Ilocano but I only understand a few words of it. I can speak Tagalog but its very difficult to speak without adding english words to a sentence. Its also difficult talking in formal Tagalog as we were trained more to read, write, and speak in english in school, without the american accent tho :P

I know exactly what you mean. I've been having trouble speaking Tagalog for as long as I can remember.
