I broke my right ankle this past June playing kickball. My left foot kinda slipped and then my right foot just snapped all the way to the right. It was absolutely horrifying. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance but they didn't have anyone who could administer pain killers so it was the longest 20 minutes of my life to the hospital. I was very close to going into shock.
After I got to the hospital they had to snap my foot back straight and then I had emergency surgery. I broke three different bones, two on then outside and one little one on the inside. I ended up getting a plate and many screws on the outside area and then a couple more screws and even a string put in on the other side.
When I thought the worst was over, about a week later I had intense pain and a high fever and ended up hospitalized again. Turns out the hardware they put in my foot gave me a very bad staph infection. I had to go through two more surgeries and then I had to be put on a piccline in order to administer the heavy antibiotics.
I currently just had my final surgery in which they removed the hardware, I'm pretty bummed because I feel like my progress has been regressed. I was finally walking without crutches and could just use the walking boot but now I'm back to crutches and being bed ridden. It's so hard to become so dependent on others all of a sudden. Especially since I'm still on the piccline and need help doing it three times a day.
I can't wait for this all to be over and I gain my independence and life back.
