You appear to have little regard for history or a basic understanding of how firearms work. Considering your age, your ignorance is not surprising. But the good news is that you can become educated on the subject. I support gun control as well. That is the right to control my gun and that we should keep firearms from being used my criminals.

I note that you are not a US citizen (guessed by UK spelling of some words and then checked your profile :) - very cool name BTW).

What does the term "semi-automatic" mean? It means you can fire the next round without manually reloading the chamber. Semi-automatic means you have to release the trigger for the next round to load and then pull it again for the next round to fire. Fully automatic weapons are banned from a regular citizen to use and own. Yes, a citizen "can" get them but it requires paying large fees to the government and filling our mounds of paperwork.

For more information here is a liberal site that explains some more mechanics of firearms for a layperson:
    http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2012/12/semi-automatic-gun-assault-weapon-definitions

Here is a conservative site with much the same information:
    http://www.gunbanfacts.com/Get_the_Facts/History/hoping.aspx
(you will note that unlike the liberal site this one has documentation of its facts)

Almost ALL firearms sold today are semi-automatic. Therefore banning all semi-automatics would effectively ban all firearms.

Where do you get your stat about the gun related deaths? It simply is not true. There are dozens of countries which have more gun related deaths. Further, there are many countries where guns have been banned that has violent crime which far exceeds the US statistics.

You must remember that gun control is not about guns - it is about control.

I agree that tragedies like Sandy Hook are horrible but limiting my rights doesn't solve the problem. Taking away my ability to defend myself against criminals won't make children any safer.

Next, look at the places which have the strictest gun control in the US; they also have the highest crime rate and which those with the least restrictions have the lowest crime rate.

More people are killed by handguns than assault rifles. More people are killed by blunt objects than assault rifles according to the FBI.

The intent of the Founding Fathers was our legitimate right to own firearms are based on the need for self defense, the need for self support such as hunting, and the need for communal defense (militia).

    * James Madison: Americans have "the advantage of being armed" -- unlike the citizens of other countries where "the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."

    * Patrick Henry: "The great objective is that every man be armed. . . . Everyone who is able may have a gun."

    * George Mason: "To disarm the people [is] the best and most effectual way to enslave them."

    * Samuel Adams: "The Constitution shall never be construed . . . to prevent the people of the United States who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms."

    * Alexander Hamilton: "The best we can hope for concerning the people at large is that they be properly armed."

    * Richard Henry Lee: "To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them."

Tyrannical governments kill far more people than private criminals. So opponents of taking away their rifles see it as the first step to taking all guns.

The average law abiding citizen will not need an assault rifle until the government comes for us.
