Are Jesus and Christians Still Related?

Jesus Christ is most known for being a teacher, miracle worker, and His claim to be the Son of God. Christians say that they follow Jesus, they were saved by His death on a cross, and that they attempt to follow His example. My question is simply this: Have Christians accomplished their goal?

As a lifelong member of the Christian faith I have seen firsthand the way people who proclaim their Christian faith do some of the most non-Christ-like actions to others, especially those who do not agree with their viewpoints on hot-button issues like abortion or homosexuality. In a gentle and respectful manner please share your thoughts. Do Christians, in reality, follow Christ?

The thing that kind of struck me (a while back) was the realization that "Christianity", as an organized religion, was political from its inception.

Constantine: From what I have read, although he professed to "believe", he also wanted to unify his "kingdom" and chose to use Christianity to do so.

I try to separate individuals from the whole. In other words, I try not to assume that every person who tags them self as a Christian is as vitriolic as some I've heard.

Best example? Fred Phelps (God hates America, God hates **** and etc and etc)
Best examples of Jesus' character (to me, anyway): When he was 'answering' the Pharisees who were accusing the woman of adultery. Says he bent down and started writing in the sand and voila! one by one they all walked away. I heard one pastor say that he thought maybe Jesus was writing down the sins that each of them had committed and as each of them recognized their sin, they slunk away.
Second: Him talking to the woman at the well. His disciples came up to him to question him. Basically they wanted to know what in the world was he doing talking to this woman! Apparently, men did not converse with women during that time. They gave them orders, but did not actually hold conversations with them. Yet here is "the Rabbi/Teacher" doing just that. Are you daft, Rabbi?? What are you doing???

Not enough modern day Christians actually bother to discern what His message really was. We seem to be caught up in "the Law".

Do you ever worry that He will say to you, "I never knew you."? I think if you never, ever worry about that, then there's something wrong.

It doesn't seem that way to me. I think the Christian religion is very confused and misled...

Jesus was Christ. His followers were instructed to BE CHRISTS. Not to "follow Christianity". Not to worship Jesus himself as a god.

Christ is an anointing of the heart by divine love. Same thing Jesus, Buddha, Krisna and many others have taught.
Jesus the Christ's teachings were warped and misrepresented by early followers (the ones who wrote the books of the new testament). It was taken over by Pharisees and remains so to this day. The religion of Christianity and The Christ's teachings are two vastly differently things.
