I Happen to Be a Guy That Likes Other Guys - A.k.a. "Homosexual"

A personal story in the experience: I Am Gay
I happen to be a guy that likes other guys.... Yes, in at least North American society, that causes me to be described as someone who is "homosexual". -So, no big deal, right?... WRONG!.... If it were simply a matter of being geared towards guys as opposed to gals, then I don't think I would have too big an issue where my "homosexuality" is concerned. Unfortunately, with the title of being "homosexual" seems to come all of these expectations and even "rules" depending on where you are... And I'm not just talking about these perceptions and preconceptions coming from those who happen to be "heterosexual or even the ever-controversial "bi"-sexual, but from other so-called "homosexuals"! Why would one bust there own comfort zones to "come out" (as it's called), only to be told that one now has to fit into all of these other stereotypes???... Why cannot one just happen to be a guy who wishes to be in a romantic (or at least steady sexual and emotional companionship-like) relationship, without all of the nonsense of having "to be" (yet again-) something else they're not???... Ok, that's my rant for now.

I know lots of men who are gay and really don't fit the stereotype. It helps to be in place with a large gay community, I think. In Houston, there are all kinds, and all kinds of places to go.

Be yourself, not the stereotype.

No one knows I am gay, because I don't "look like one"...
If you knew me you would never imagine I am.
Like my homophobic best friend, he doesn't have the slightest idea of my true self... *Sighs*

i totally agree with you. the idea of "coming out" is so you don't have to basically lie to people just to make them more comfortable around you. it's so you can live your life as the person you are. a lot of homosexuals come out and after they do, they lie to themselves so they can live up to the "gay name". I feel that these people are just doing the same thing just with a new group of people

If you don't want to fit a stereotype then don't, be you. I'm married to a guy [I'm a guy too] but still consider myself bisexual, everyone assumes I'm gay, I happened to fall in love with a man - a really terrific one as it happens who is gay. People, gay and straight, are surprised when they find out we're a couple because, surprise surprise, we're just like regular people.

There are always those who fit a stereotype exactly, whatever it is, jock, screaming queen or football hooligan, most people do not.

Be you my friend and if someone makes an unjustified assumption then correct them if it bothers you. I'm not going to get wound up and tense because of others' lack of imagination.

Don't sweat the small stuff...just go with the flow...We all ahd to start somewhere..I have been gay since I was nine, long story, and have not had gay sex in over thirty years...I am now 71 and sometimes miss it very much, but have gotten to the point that I do not need it..Maybe it is because I have gotten some religion...
