I am 40. My periods come exactly every 28 days, but I have noticed that my breast hurt a few days before my period as well. I have also noticed heavier and crampier periods. My mom and sisters were in there early 50's before menopause. I have heard pre-menopause can go on for years before your actually considered menopausal.

    Hi Jill,

I am post menopausal, what you described is exactly how it starts. With the exception of the UTI's (that might be something else altogether) peri-menopause is not fun. Full blown menopause is worse unless you take the right precautions.

First, find out what might cause the hotflashes (wine did it for me.), decrease your intake in coffee, and exercise. One of the food items that was extremely helpful throughout the unpleasant process was yams. They have nutrients that stablizes your hormones and minimizes the hotflashes. It is one food item that actually pushes you faster through the menopausal process.

Takin hormone therapy is probably not a good idea, it has serious side affects and long term problems. Also what helped is breathing exercises. Hope this helps. Oh forgot one item, lack of sleep at night. Melitonen (sp) works with green tea, herbal teas of any kind and fruits/vegetables.

I'm glad I'm through it!!! Good luck be healthy.
