Believing My Own Lies

I was explaining to a friend of mine how we came about a dog at my dad's house the other day. The story that my brother and I told my father and stepmother differed greatly from the real story. While I meant to tell my friend what had really happened, I told him the lie by mistake. After thinking about it for a moment, I realized that I hadn't told the truth, and had to retell the story correctly. It is my belief that I told the lie first because I believed it myself.
