But Not With My Shape

I am happy with my weight, but not with my shape. My BMI is about 22, about the middle of the normal range. My doctor says at my age I should not weigh any less, and I don't want to weigh any more.

I look at myself in the mirror, and where there used to be a basketball in my belly, there's still a deflated basketball in my belly. I want to get rid of it. The only way I can get rid of it is by losing fat. But to lose fat without losing weight, I have to gain muscle. At my age that's not easy.

I've been lifting weights every day Monday through Friday. Now I'm changing to lifting weights on alternate days with cardio in between. Frankly, I don't know whether anything will work. I've gained some muscle definition but now it's hard to tell if I'm making any more progress.

I weigh myself every morning ******** before breakfast and adjust my snacking habit to keep my weight stable. I try to measure my waist but the measurement depends on how much I contract my abs. If I relax them completely and push my gut down as far as it will go, my waist is more than half my height. That's more than it should be. Is that really where I am?

I'm happy with my weight. I'm not happy with my shape.

I know exactly how you feel. My weight is good, I like it. It just seems that all weight I gain goes straight to my middle.
