We portray kindness because it's who we are. I've done something nice for someone and they did nothing for me. So what did I do? I showed them even more kindness. I learned to not expect kindness from others from what I do. But that won't stop me, because it feels good to help others, the reward is your self-satisfaction. But if it's a huuuuuuge douche, then I wont help them for crap lol.

The topic makes me think of a number in the musical "Camelot" titled "Fi on Goodness Fi". But seriously I think we need to define kindness. We have the obligation not to enable anothers destructive behavior. I find with age I am more focused on recognizing actual needs rather than just trying to look for opportunities to be helpful. That way satisfaction can come from a fulfillment of purpose rather than any recognition or appreciation which might not come. We can just be who we are with out needing to find a validation of our identity via a positive feedback from others.
