Michelle Rhee-chancellor of Dc Public Schools
In 2007, Michelle Rhee, a 1992 Baltimore corps member, became the Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools.
Rhee's commitment to excellence in education began in 1992, when she started her teaching career at Harlem Park Community School in Baltimore as a part of Teach For America.
After spending three years teaching, Rhee served as Chief Executive Officer and President of The New Teacher Project, a non-profit organization that partners with school districts, state departments of education and other educational entities to enhance their capacity to recruit, select, train, and support outstanding new teachers for difficult-to-staff schools.
In the summer of 2007, Rhee was appointed by D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty as the Chancellor of D.C. Public Schools. She has staffed 70% of her cabinet with Teach For America alunmi.
Rhee holds a Bachelor's degree in Government from Cornell University and a Master's degree in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
