Regret /rɪˈgrɛt/ - To Be Upset Over Past Action.

Every single person, at some point in their lives, has made a mistake leaving them with that perturbed, mind racing feeling, clenched sweaty hands and bitten lower lips. Maybe not exactly as that but we've all felt regret.

In result, we wish that we could take back the things we've said and things we've done to emotionally or physically hurt ourselves or someone else. We beat ourselves up for it. We want to delve into a state of oblivion so we can stop ourselves from being upset, annoyed, confused, and just down-right angry! I've been there.

We all have.

And when I make one of those mistakes, I do what I can to rectify the problems even though it sometimes makes things worse. "But it's okay," I tell myself, "I'm human and I make mistakes." And I just know that the mistakes I've made will only help me learn to change myself for the better in the future. It's like a learning tool, I guess. I see it as a way for me to finally be able to mature my way of thinking and living.

I know that to some of you, this may seem like I'm making an excuse to let myself feel better and off the hook for what I've done. That's not true. I will always have to live with the hurt and consequences but I refuse to emotionally torture myself for all the wrong things I've done and said.. I only want to learn from the experience so I can avoid the same thing from happening again in the future. We all have to remember that we all make mistakes and by recognizing what we've done wrong: we can learn to change. Otherwise we will be left probably making the same mistakes and pathetically sitting in our own misery moping over the past: something that can't be undone. (Unless you're doc and have a time-warping DeLorean)

The mistakes we make come with consequences and by facing those consequences and realizing our faults we only help ourselves in the development of becoming a better person.

Words to live by! You surely know what you're talking about. I used to mope in my own regret until I learned that you can only learn from your wrongs, do what you can to fix them, and try your hardest never to repeat them! You're very wise, and have a lot of the same views as I do on this subject. I appreciate your sharing.
