I Am In An Online Relationship
Well I joined an online social site a while back for the purposes of making new friends. It wasnt a dating site, more an international penpal site. There I met a few new people - they were girls with a common interest (I keep horses). Then a guy from Texas who was out in Kuwait with the army sent me a message and we got chatting. At first it was on the site only, then I gave him my email address. He would AIM me every now and then when he had computer access. He is younger than me (24, I was 31). When he got home in November he had a lot more spare time on his hands. He is military reserves, so he doesnt work full time with the army. Just every other weekend unless deployed. I am self employed and work from home, therefore we are both online a lot. He was basically looking for full time work whilst waiting for a transfer to the marines which would be full time. I had only ever seen two photos of him, and they were kinf of unclear! I wasnt romantically interested in him that I was aware of, he just kept me entertained at work every afternoon (6hr time difference).
At some point we got to talking about accents and he asked me about mine (I'm English), so I sent him a few links to videos on youtube and FB of me and my friends. He had a FB account that he deactivated a while back because he didnt like his grandmother seeing his army friends swearing all over his wall and felt it was wrong to delete her as a friend. But he re-activated it and changed his settings so they couldnt write on his page, so he could friend me and see my videos. I was amazed. There were pictures of his kuwait and afghan tours. I knew he had been to a few big cities in Europe while he was on leave in Kuwait. He had told me about the buildings and the history of the places he'd been and over a period of maybe 9 hours he talked me through each of his albums at my request. One album shows him in hospital having just had surgery for cancer. He was 20 at the time. Such an incredibly interesting person, for lots of different reasons. I already knew we liked the same bands, the same Tv shows, the same movies. He did the same rummaging around my facebook, he still does now... He'll say thing like hey that band whose page you 'liked' yesterday, I checked them out and they suck. We are, I think true friends now! Anyway I have an iphone app that allows yout to text overseas without using the cell network. It uses internet instead so its free with my service plan. And can send pictures and videos and voice tags etc. He got it too, so now, around 2pm my time every day I get a text message, and we text back and forth all day til I go to bed at around midnight. Around 6 weeks or so ago he sent me a text saying he saw some new photos id put on fb and that I looked very pretty. Then I text him a picture of me before I went to a function and said "am i presentable?", he said I was the most beautiful thing he'd ever seen, and to text him when got home safely later. There was no indication up til then that either of us were romantically interested in the other, but I had known for a while that he was kind of my Mr Perfect. I realised the day I saw his FB pics that he's actually drop dead gorgeous. He went to church the day after he made the comment and text me a photo of what his mom made him wear. I said he looked nice enough to make my toes curl, and I think the penny dropped for him then. The texts increased, and we talked about things we'd take one another to see in our home countries if the other ever visited. That progressed to us agreeing that when he gets his transfer to the marines he'll be gone for 13 weeks, then his 10 day leave after graduation he wants to come to the UK. He's hoping for Europe or Hawaii as his base, so I know it will never go anywhere, but its just so nice to have him around. Then last weekend he went out with some friends and had a few too many beers. He text me at 4am his time to say 1) I think I fell in love with you. 2) I've been wanting to tell you that for a while now but I wanted to say in person after graduation. I'm going to kick myself for saying it on a text whilst over the limit, but hey its true. There I said it. I'm in love with you..... And he apologised for it the next day but said it was all true. I wouldnt say I'm in love with him, heck I never met him and we've never even spoken on the phone (we occasionally record voice memos and send them on text messages). But I do know he's always on my mind. We send pictures all the time. Of everything from what we had for dinner to how the fake tanning booth stained the soles of his feet dark brown. There are some big differences between us, like our age, the distance, I lved with my ex for 5 years, he's still a virgin. I dont go to church, he does now and then with family. But we're friends and I'm really going to miss him when he's gone. I know I only have a week or two until the military confiscate his cell and access to the outside world for 13 weeks. But if nothing else I think I have a friend for life and he said he'll memorise my address so he can write to me. I havnet told my friends or family about it. Thy know I have a friend in the US that I talk to a lot. Thats why I'm writing it on here :) I think its a nice story :)
