Our Phone Call.

I went to class yesterday and she seemed really pissed off.
"What's wrong?" I asked, reaching for her hand.
"I'm having problems with Sean." (Sean is our friend from class)
"I Can't talk about it right now.." she said, staring off at him. I turned to face him and notice him studying us. "By the way I'm not staying tonight." She said. "This is too much to handle."

I held onto her hand for a moment and turned over and looked at her sadly.
"Okay, but...text me.."
"I will," she promised.

When she left, Sean took me aside.
"I'm not a very big fan of Alison anymore. There's some things--"

I backed away, and looked at him seriously. "I know." I said, coldly finishing off his sentence.

"You know?" He reiterated, seemingly surprised.

"I know a lot of things."

"That's right, because you're psychic." He said, sarcastically.

I looked over at him square in the eyes as I felt the anger flooding through my veins. "Look," I hissed at him. "Alison is my friend, she's special to me and I promised her I would never leave her. She has no one...and I'm there for her. You're only mad at her because she has a POINT in the argument. Well guess what? I back her up, and unlike you I know what true friendship is. Does this have anything to do with what you told me last summer--? Having feelings for a married woman?" (Guys, Sean is like--50, by the way.)

He looked uncomfortable that I exposed his hidden secret. " That's--p-part of it but it's not the whole thing. I mean she IS married."

"Separated." I hissed. "Get it right." I got so upset I couldn't take it anymore.
"You know what? Just let me go, I'm going home. I need a long shower to clear my head and I need to go to sleep. I've had exams all week."

"Fine." He said.

I got in the car and dialed Alisons' number.
"Hey, I need to talk to you. I'll call you around 10:30 tonight," I said.
"Alright Honey, that's fine."

I called her at the exact time.

"Hey," I said,
"What happened between you & Sean tonight?"
"Nothing he was just being a jerk and as always--he was just being rude."
"He has those qualities at times...trust me."
She giggled.
"He seemed disappointed tonight, and he said some things...let me just say, I stood up for you tonight."
"What did he say?"
"Just some things I didn't appreciate. So I told him you were a very special to me and that I would always be here for you regardless of what happened. I know who you are and I'm not letting anyone's comments affect our friendship."

"Awe, thank you soo much..." she said.

"No problem. By the way, have things eased up at home?"

"Not really--I'm trying to finalize the divorce but the jerk won't let me. He doesn't understand I don't have the means to pay for a lawyer."

"I'm soo sorry...I wish I could give you a huge hug."

"Your emotional hugs mean a lot to me." She replied.

"If there's anyone who doesn't deserve to be going through this--it's you. You're strength is amazing."

"I think I'm more stupid than I am amazing..." she mumbled.

There was a short pause of silence.

"Don't ever say that. You're not stupid...You mean so much to me. If you were stupid I wouldn't even be talking to you." I said.

There was silence at the other end of the line and then I heard her sniffle.

"I never even thought about that.." she said quietly.

"This is all going to be okay. Believe me. You'll figure this out eventually. Like I've told you in the past, we all go through these kinds of things of different nature to become better people. I know you're going to get through this. I believe in you."

"Thank you" she choked out in mid-tears.

Hearing her cry, made me wish I was right next to her--comforting her."

After a small space of silence I whispered gently, "You know I care about you--right?"

"Yes, I know--and I care soo much about you too. You're a really good friend and you're amazing."

"Thank you. The same goes to you and you know that."

"Did I make you..cry?" I added.

"You made me cry tears of joy. It's so nice to know I have someone."

"You'll always have me, and that's a promise." I said.

"You have me too--" she said. "I should get to bed--and sweetie, you should too."
