R.A.C.K

RACK is a newer term in BDSM and it stands for Risk Aware Consensual Kink.

It seems like more and more people at least in my area are using this term for their BDSM endeavors. Words like "Safe" and "Sane" sometimes don't apply to what people do under the BDSM banner. At least not in some peoples eyes. Using a barbed wire flogger on someone or a knife to carve on someone isn't necessarily safe or sane. Beating someone with a stick until their *** is red and bleeding probably shouldn't be considered safe or sane. But its what some people do.

I will say it again and again... Your kink my not be my kink and mine may not be yours and that is ok. We all pick and choose the parts that we like and our partners like. We shouldn't judge them and they shouldn't judge us. As long as all parties are aware of the risks and consent to it then more power to them. As long as the best possible safe practices are kept while playing then again more power to them.

When it comes down to it there are two or more parties usually involved in BDSM play. Whoever those parties are they are responsible for each other and themselves. Keeping that in your mind always is a good thing.

Maybe we need two codes. Our original SSC one for those drawing the line at blood sports and for RACK to be redesignated ERACK - Extreme Risk Aware Consensual Kink.

The reason is that some of the activities described in your post are probably illegal. They would make the day for the legal profession in the UK and get the media and public supporting a ban on all BDSM activity.

There would probably be severe penalties imposed upon anyone convicted of such offences particularly if they caused permanent injury or disability. That could also include mental issues.

At the other end of the scale............

A member of the Royal family has taken part in "School Dinners" where play caning takes place. This is technically against the law. We are just getting over the idea that the schoolgirl caning scene has no association with paedophiles or that the participants are always over eighteen years of age and not children.

It is not the time to have a new code showing that we all approve extreme BDSM as reflecting the behaviour of the majority of our community

Thanks for this update.

People slowly accepting the SSC (Safe - Sane-Consensual) code.

With so many ignoring it I am not sure it is a good thing to introduce a clever modern sounding distraction!

"Rack" in most people's minds will be associated with medieval torture so I am not happy with this new acronym.

Full risk assessment needs to be completed under the "Safe" part of the original SSC

Ya, I have noticed that R.A.C.K. is coming around as a more common acronymn. I like it. Makes my mind wander... :P
