Finding the Mchenry's

I am 3rd generation Irish American. My maternal great grandfather came to America in the early 1900's. Until he passed away earlier this year, I had been asking him as many questions as I could about our family culture. I actually learned that our last name was orginally  McHenry, but upon arriving to the US, it was changed to Smith. I plan to go to Coney Island soon & see if I can find my family's records. I remember growing up in an extremly traditional/strict Irish Catholic family. Of course their was the usual crogers(not sure if I spelled it right) and cabbage for Sunday dinner, all the women had a least one rosary bead, and the men drinking loads of Irish beer & singing silly folktale songs, even at funerals! :) kinda miss it...
