I Am Just a Booty Call
I trekked back to the KCRA headquarters to pick up my internship check. The receptionist greeted me warmly and she said, "I was to send you back to the weather room when you showed up, Kristine needs to see you." I thought, oh no, we had all that unprotected sex, is she pregnant or worse, is she having morning after regrets (although this was three weeks later.)
I went into the weather station, everyone said "Hi" and I went to Kristine's office and knocked on the door with dread. I heard a pleasant, "Come in, I heard you were in the building." I said Hi and asked how her holidays were, she said they were a real bummer, her fiancee did not come home, "Which is o.k. with me, he's probably off screwing someone and expecting me to sit around and pine for him. The reason I wanted to see you is, one, I have someone I would like you to meet." Kristine stood up walked around the desk and literally took me by the hand and walked me into the Newsroom. She walked me to a desk and said, "Lisa, this is the guy I told you about." Lisa stood up and held out her hand to shake, I did likewise. Lisa said, "Yea, you are right, firm handshake, not bad for a science guy." "I thought you two would like to go for a night on the town and since Lisa is new here, you could show her the ropes," said Kristine. As she said that she reached into her pocket and pulled out a couple of tickets to the Fillmore in San Francisco, CA. "You two have fun on me, consider it a late Christmas present.," said Kristine and she walked away.
I felt rather odd, this was person who I had seen around, but never said more than Hi or goodbye to. I broke the ice and said, "Well, the Fillmore is not exactly Sacramento, but it's this Saturday. I will tell you what, here is my number, if you want to go call me." Lisa said that sounded great. We exchanged numbers and I went back to the weather bureau. I saw Kristine again and I asked, "What did you tell her?" Kristine said, "I don't kiss and tell, I told her you were a very nice guy, low key, you probably won't want sex on a first date and you are a fantastic cook. Oh,she does not have a boyfriend. Go get her!"
