Far From Home

I'm on a student exchange for a year in Italy, from Canada...without my language, country, school, family, and friends...I'm lonely...

I did exchanges in school and was lonely as hell for some of them. I found it got better when I bailed on caution and just started saying whatever/doing as much as possible and talking as much as I could with people. It didn't take away the culture shock, it's really hard to make proper connections with people in another language, but it's a fun distraction, and your brain gets too tired from translating to care. And if you say something embarrassing, nobody's going to get offended. They're just glad you want to learn their language.
At the very least if you keep yourself busy you have fuel for emails to your friends/fb, which kept me sane on a recent trip alone.
I hope you have fun and get to make the most of it :) all the best

I am considering doing an exchange program, but I'm going to make sure it is in an English-speaking country. I hope you have been able to find a niche for youself, I'm sure it's hard. Good luck, and remember you're there to LEARN!
