It's not just the cost of putting the alternatives in place. It's breaking the grip energy companies have with each other. Coal runs electric plants, oil is for transportation and power, transportation manufactoring makes deals with oil companies for their support in lobbying..so alternatives are slow to be developed and fuel standards are slow to encrease.

They are all so interdependent on one another that it requires a full spectrum approach to get the point across that enough damage has been done.

And unfortunately some of the ones that act as advocates for the environment and general well being of people take an approach that only aggravates the situations. Loud confrontations tend to distort the message and companies dig in their heels, as well as the view of the general populace being turned against the advocates as nothing more than radicals and 'tree-huggers with no grasp of reality'.

When we begin speaking about bettering the enviroment we are called whackos etc. When we incorporate the betterment of people we are called socialists, anti- american, anti-freedom, anti- government, anti-business. Those are easy words for people who don't want to look at themselves in the mirror, or those afraid of changing, or just generally those that are fearfilled.

This spill is a clarion call for us as a society to take a hard look at our selves, and then act appropriately and accordingly. Making hard choices, and even some sacrifices in the beginning.

One can hope that we are truly at the end of an epoch and stand at the beginning of a new time for our planet and our people.

Exactly! I agree that there are alternatives and with the oil spill, we really need to take them seriously.
