Sounds exactly what I live with. Every book I've read (and there have been many) says that there's little hope of them changing. That is why my heart is broken for the three decades I've invested with him :( Thank you for sharing this, it makes me feel less alone, and definitely not crazy!

Sounds more like a narcissist or other personality disorder - have you researched any of that?

i sometimes wonder if i am not a PA. but i guess i don't check all the boxes. Sometimes after years of marriage life just gets in the way. Its all about the money and the responsibility now, and the reason you got married is foggy to say the least. It becomes a love/hate relationship.
Selfish I am at times, show lack of concience, mean spirited. but in my case i am truly not a happy person(maybe that split persona thing)..I am a good salesman , because people don't see it , all smily and light on the outside, actually I am probably downright miserable..lol ( alcohol can sometimes be the true liberator).
in a nutshell "it is not your fault".. Before we point a finger we must always remember that there are 3 fingers pointing back. In my case , at the end of the day my investment into the relationship means I have too much to loose to get out of it.....and do I want to....
A friend of mine told me once that before I blame someone look at myself first.
You are not trapped , but are u like me......but..no matter what NEVER believe it is your FAULT
