What If I Hadn't Got Married?

I have been married for 25 years and I love my husband dearly but I sometimes find myself wondering how different my life would have been if I hadn't got married.  I was only 19 years old when I met him (we didn't get married right away).  I had a 12 months old son and he had two children from his previous marriage - they lived with him.  He is 14 years older than me.  Anyway, here we are 25 years later, still together.  I don't regret it - we've had a good life (and still do!) but I still wonder what might have happened.

The first 10 years were difficult.  Particularly with the kids - I wasn't a good step mum although we get on OK now.  But now, I really like being married.  I've got a few friends who are single and I really wouldn't want to go through what they have to.  I know that my husband loves me and cares about me.  My biggest worry is that our age difference means that I might end up being on my own for a long time.  I worry about being a "little old lady on my own" - we joke about it sometimes but it's not really funny.  I think that he worries about it too.  Anyway, for now I'm enjoying it and we're storing up lots of good memories for the future.  But, what would have happened to me if I hadn't got married............................!

If you hadn't married him, you'd probably be thinking, "I wonder how my life might have been different if I'd married him back then, instead of deciding I needed to explore my life more." Be glad you've had a good life with him, as that's exactly what it sounds like to me. Sure your life would have been different today...but not necesarily in a good way!
