2112 And The Meek Shall Inherit The Earth.....(2112 And Of Course The Bible)

The whole story behind the song 2112 speaks to me.  It's about a guy "anonymous" who longs for a world filled with art and music but lives in a world ruled by men who think its a waste of time and distracts people from their work.  he finds a guitar behind a waterfall and learns to play it and the beauty of the music moves him to the point where he wants to share it with the world.  He takes it to the "priests of the temples of syrinx" (syrinx actually being a pan flute so it's ironic that its the name of where the priests are).  They completely shoot him down and crush his feelings, "just think about the average, what use have they for you?"  he wanders home and has a dream about the artists and musician that have left and started a new world and when he wakes up to find that it was only a dream he becomes despondent and takes his own life.  This would seem depressing but the song culminates in an epic battle between the priests and the artists and the artists win and take back over their home world, the song ends with "attention all planets of the solar federation, we have assumed control"  It gives me goose bumps just to type that.  It was apparently based on the Fountainhead by Ayn Rand.  These guys especially neil peart excel as lyricists.  Check it out if you haven't heard it but be warned its 20 minutes long but worth it. true triumph of good over evil.
