I Am Native American (cherokee)
My granny was full blooded Cherokee Indian. She had salt and pepper hair that went all the way to her feet. Every night before she went to bed she would brush it with an old silver brush and braid it all the way down. It was a ritual almost. She wore floral polyester dresses that used to itch my face when I would rub against her. She would bounce me on her lap and sing, "Granny's little baby loves shortnin, shortnin..Granny's little baby loves shortnin bread!" She would cook me fried bread and scrambled eggs for breakfast.
My mama and aunts used to say there was no possible way I could remember her because I was only five months old when she died, but I have very VIVID memories of her and sometimes have dreams about her. Mama said that after Granny died, she would see her often sitting at the foot of her bed and she also dreamed of her often.
I dont know a lot about Cherokee indians, but I have the blood and its about time I start exploring my history. My Granny would want me to know I think.
And no matter what they say about Not being able to remember her, I DO REMEMBER her. I dont care what they think. love you granny!!
