Health Care Issue For Choctaws

THE HEALTHCARE I RECIEVE FROM THE CHICKASAWS, AS A CHOCTAW LIVING IN THE CHICKASAW NATION, IS NOT THE SAME AS A CHICKASAW - AT A POINT THEY HAVE MORE. AS A CHOCTAW LIVING IN THE CHICKASAW NATION, WHERE MY FAMILIES ALLOTMENT IS, CHOCTAW HEALTHCARE IS LIMITED BECAUSE I LIVE OUTSIDE THE CHOCTAW NATION. I RECENTLY FOUND THIS OUT WHEN I NEEDED MORE THAN CLINIC SERVICES AND HAD TO USE OUTSIDE DOCTORS ON MY OWN AFTER THE CLINICS REQUESTS TO THE CHICKASAW - MEDSAW TO HELP ME WERE TURNED DOWN. CHOCTAWS NEED PROPER HEALTHCARE NO MATTER WHERE WE LIVE! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW MANY OF THE 202,888 CHOCTAWS LIVE OUTSIDE THE SERVICE AREA AND NEED HELP WITH THIS ISSUE? I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS.

I now live in California but was living in Shawnee, Oklahoma before - well out of service area, I believe. My medical records now only show from 2002 to present (nothing from when I was living in-state. I'm torn between my love for LA and my need to learn more about my culture, but I would love to actually return to Oklahoma, and maybe even Choctaw Nation. You should speak to someone in Choctaw Nation if you can make the trip, because they should be allowing you health care and other services. My dad was receiving when he wasn't in the service area - or state for that matter - and even received taniff (sp?) using my sister and I to do so, without having any of our information.

I also live outside the service area and have to drive to Hugo or Idabel to get healthcare and the clinic services for me and my son are limited. I don't know what to do because I live in Texas so I often have to see private doctors that don't take IHS coverage. Then my health info is not shared with my main physician at the clinic in Hugo. There is a lack of communication between doctors in the private sector and those serving the Indian Nations, like we are one of the silent, forgotten races.
