I feel like far too many people use the term "drama queen" to avoid having to care about those around them who are really struggling. Instead of admitting that perhaps the troubles their loved one is having are beyond their capacity to help, they undermine what a person is going through. Just to not have to deal with it.

I'm tired of such selfishness. I am not a drama queen. I have been a victim (simply saying you choose not to be will not keep someone from harming you if they wish to do so). I have been and still am sick. I have been homeless, I have been hungry. I am still depressed and scared, and I often feel unloved. I battle thoughts of suicide many a day.

This does not make me a drama queen. If anything, I'm amazingly resilient. I have weathered things that would bring most people to their knees. I'm still here.

We need to get out of the habit of dismissing people's struggles as drama, and ask ourselves how we can be better people and at least care, if you can't help.
