Trying to Find My Authentic Self

I have spent my whole life being told in one way or another that I am not good enough. The last six years I have learnt that I have alot to offer as a mother and as a teacher. People who say they know me have said things about me that are false yet extremely hurtful. How can you claim to know someone yet not recognise the good things about them.

I am going to find my true self and stop wearing a mask to make other people happy.

Good for you!
Try to remember that anything anyone says about you is only important if A) you know it's true, or B) You value their opinion. I think in this case that you shouldn't let their evidently -not- true views have any bearing on you. It is a sad but generally true rule that those who criticise others are merely expressing the faults they see or have seen in themselves.
I have experience of wearing a mask to make other people happy, but what I learned over time is that it only ever works in the short term - as with all lies. In the long term, it ends up with no-one being happy. If you genuinely do want to make other people happy, first -be- happy, and if they're around you they'll simply catch it like a virus. Best of luck!
