It's the People Who Are Different That Get Noticed

WHY IS IT THAT THE PEOPLE THAT AR DIFFERENT ARE THE ONES THAT GET NOTICED ALL THE TIME. LIKE PEOPLE WHO ARE ALL THE SAME ARE ENTERTAINED BY AND POINT THEIR FINGERS AT THE REST OF US.

WELL I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL THOSE "NORMAL PEOPLE" ......IT IS US WHO ARE ENTERTAINED BY YOU! WATCHING YOU SCRAMBLE ABOUT TRYING TO GET THE LASTEST TRENDS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES. TRADING IN YOUR PERFECTLY WORKING CELL PHONE OR COMPUTER TO GET THE LASTEST MODEL. ALWAYS UPGRADING EVERYTHING LIKE THAT WILL MAKE YOU BETTER THAN THE REST OF US.

WELL I CAN ONLY SPEAK FOR MYSELF, BUT I THINK SOME OTHERS WOULD AGREE.....I LIKE BEING ME AND I CAN HONESTLY SAY I AM COMFORTABLE ABOUT MYSELF AND WHO I AM BECUASE.....I'M NOT LIKE EVERY OTHER PERSON IN THIS WORLD. I AM ME!!!

I like and respect all of these comments ans points of views,save for one,who really has no concept of what is real life vs. high school and life not being the same for everyone in this 'real world'. Everyone keep doing your own thing,and holding your heads up,and above all,be true to yourself while observing the truth as you and others combined would see it. Peace.

ha ha you all don't have any conception of what difference is all about.<br />
i am so different i have i have even changed my own concept of gender.<br />
i was raised during the war(ww2) .boy talk about difference.back then a loaf <br />

I have had the 'normal' people pointing their fingers at me for a long time now. Ever since the day that I decided to not let them make their assumptions about me, believe that I was the same as the crowd. That was the day I came screaming out of the closet and started responding to all those questions that people ask you when they first meet you, 'so, are you married, have kids? what do u do for a living? etc etc" I'd always responded vaguely, hiding myself from the fingerpointing and amusement and power that the 'normal people' get from doing that to others. I started saying ' nope, i'm a dyke, can't get married, tho i have been with my girlfriend for 7 years.' ' work? i have a bachelors degree, but i work in a warehouse 2 days a week, because I'm disabled. mentally ill to be exact.' 'and yourself?' they usually don't have a lot to say back to me at that point though. it's only later, when they've shared what i said with the other 'normal people' that they feel safe again. i'm white, i have friends of various races that don't have the luxery of being able to 'pass' as 'normal' in a group of white folks. so i feel a certain obligation at this point in my life to make a point of not 'passing', and to be who i am, loudly and proudly, and too dam bad if it makes you uncomfortable. it is you who needs to change, not me.<br />
so you all just keep being who you are, and do it outloud!<br />
PS the words to the Edie Brickle and the new Bohemians song mentioned above are 'what i am is what i am. are you what you are or what?'

I wish that you could hear me clapping for you in A standing up ovation in my head. You rock. -_-

Yeah, thats exactly why I upgraded my computer and phone, so i could be cool... come on now new technology leads to an easier life. And you know what? I'm tired of everyone saying "normal people". Everyone, including your "normal people" say the same thing. They all say they hate "fake people" and what not. Really, once you're out of school, you realize that people aren't as judgmental as you would think. Oh yeah, two words: Caps Lock

I am tired of normalcy, I am tired of difference.<br />
None of it appeals.<br />
I want something other than either.

I guess everyone's right in their own ways. As they say "opinions are like as*****, everyone has one".<br />
<br />
<br />
World would be a boring place for sure, if everyone was the same. <br />
<br />
<br />
Though how different we are, we sure can get along. Everyone has their own space and uniqueness, respecting each other wouldn't do any harm, isn't it?

I isn't so important to be considered "normal" or not as it is be comfortable in your own skin. <br />
<br />
I project myself as 'normal' to the restof the world and keep my unconventional thoughts to myself, revealing them only in small doses and at the right time to the right people. <br />
<br />
Like it or not, people judge other people by their outward appearance (dress, comportment, etc.) and being perceived as 'abnormal' can get in the way of what you are trying to accomplish at times. E.g I goto work in a suit and tie because that is what people expect in my line of work, and to go to work dressed as, say, a punker would make me much less effective. OTOH, I went to a halloween party in drag, and everybody loved it.<br />
<br />
Be as unconventional as you want, but recognize that there are trade-offs.

So you're defining normal as a superficial state? <br />
"WELL I HAVE SOMETHING TO TELL THOSE "NORMAL PEOPLE" ......IT IS US WHO ARE ENTERTAINED BY YOU! WATCHING YOU SCRAMBLE ABOUT TRYING TO GET THE LASTEST TRENDS BEFORE ANYONE ELSE DOES. TRADING IN YOUR PERFECTLY WORKING CELL PHONE OR COMPUTER TO GET THE LASTEST MODEL."<br />
Not to be rude, but shouldn't normal be a state of mind? Normal people can get new phones. Normal people can colour their hair pink. Normal people can be homosexuals. Normal people can be models. Normal isn't about how you look, or how you choose to present yourself. Normal is a state of mind- if that even. Normal, in all actuality, is completely subjective. It is an opinion.

Who would like you if you don't like you for you

...and is it the different who are normal or the normal who are different. Who cares? We're all just floating around on this rock for a short while. If you're comfortable with you then don't ponder over what others think of you, or what you think of them for that matter.

i believe that people like us who get noticed all the time for our "different to societies standards" are the real people in this world...the people pointing their fingers and saying oooh what sort of a person is that? and being judgmental are the ones with hangups....so you go on being that "different to society" type of person that you are because you are who you are and thats whats beautiful about you....thankyou for your story.xx

Yes your 100% right.. Being judged has always irked me , which is why I never judge others..Maybe it is why I was never a millionair lol...I am happy and thankful..,but I will tell you if God blessed me with a million you best to be sure others will benefit from it. I mean others that are in need, because heaven knows I have been there and know how it feels to want something and not being able to get it.. It never hurts as long as it does not change the way you are..Money changes some people ,Right away they think they are better then you ...Haveing a good heart is most important.. Hugz to all

I think we all strive to be accepted by other people in the world, its just we try and do it in different ways. <br />
I have always been really shy and was the one sitting in the corner at parties or in clubs. I always thought I had to act in a certain way 'lady like' to be liked by nice people. For years I was afraid to talk to anyone or get up and dance, worried that people would think I was weird or not good enough.<br />
Then I met my husband and realised he loved me for me and non of that sh*t mattered. <br />
My confidence has grown so much since I stopped needing to impress people. I go out to have fun and let my hairdown. <br />
Crazy thing is I get noticed loads more now than ever before. To meet your life's love - love life!!

well said...... REMEMBER THE NAIL THAT STICKS OUT GET S HAMMERED.......................................

We are all different. Thank God for that. Even I as a twin and having a father who is a twin, and his twin having twins, and my twin having twins, and my brothers son having twins.( Whew!) Celebrate being different. We are all normal and yet different, what a wonderfull creative idea that was!. Just be proud of who you are, knowing that even many may find you the same, you are not, you are unique, equal to none. Yes, celebrate it and let them stare.

Don't know about all that....<br />
Can't we just all get along!!! Why is being different or the same even matter. We are just people all trying to achieve the same things. Good Life, Love, Happiness....I love being me whether I'm different or the same never really mattered as long as I'm me/sometimes I get eyes like I have a big green pimple on my nose and other times I seem invisible-sure I want to be noticed but altering me for that purpose-can't do-what I am is what I am...don't u hear the melody. What I am is what I am...I don't know the rest of the words.

Just one question...who gets to decide what is "normal" and what is "different"? It's basically just a matter of opinion. We are all people; everyone just has different tastes and different opinions. If everyone was exactly the same then wouldn't the world be a boring place?

'Different' people are just as bad as 'normal' ones when it comes to only judging a book by its cover. Just because a person doesn't wear creepers and dread falls doesn't mean they're less interesting, that their opinions count for less, that they have had less life experience or that they are any less of an individual. Not everyone carries their heart on their sleeve. There are many complex, funny, lovely, entertaining and enlightening people lurking behind 'normal' surfaces, who quite often simply aren't outwardly confident enough to express it all. Often, the different people I know are much more judgemental. Normal is just as bad a stereotype as 'weird' - why can't we all just get along? :)

Im happy for you i really am..... but what about the people who just want to be normal? some people have to really try to fit in while others don't even care...... i don't think it's funny, i think it's sad..........

SO TRUE...

My friend has a shirt that says: You Laugh At Me Because I Am Different. I laugh At You Because You're All The Same. Individuality is important. But don't go so far out there that you just can't understand why some people are pointing and staring! I've seen that mistake, too.
