All I Ask of You
I come from a family of "Phanatics." I went to see it for the first time at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta when I was 6 years old. It scared the crap out of me. All I remember from that first time are images like crashing chandeliers, some poor guy hanging in the middle of the stage, and that creepy voice coming at you from all directions.
That passed. Until the movie came out, I didn't see it again. But I memorized the entire Original Broadway Cast soundtrack. The movie... eh... ok. Gerard Butler is altogether too sexy to play the Phantom. If you've read the book (which is INCREDIBLE), you'll know what I mean. For a while after reading it, I was actually really pissed at A. L. W. for screwing up the story line and leaving out so many good characters. But alas... he replaced the awesome characters with some awesome music.
When my husband and I married nearly three years ago, our first dance was to my aunt and uncle singing All I Ask of You. It was perfect in every way and oh so fitting.
