When In Rome...be Yourself

There is that old saying: "When in Rome, do as the Romans do."

While it may be true that to live in Rome I need to be able to speak Italian or at least know some phrases that will help get me by, I believe the most important thing is to be myself wherever I am.

What do I mean by being myself?

It means being the Me that is never born and never dies; the Me that has always been and will always be; the Me that is all knowing, all powerful and everywhere present; the Me that never changes; the Me that is uniquely me.

I have found that when I'm feeling down about something or being too serious, I'm always aware of a part of me that always sees the funny side to whatever is going on and tells me to lighten up. That is Me as pure, unborn/undying Joy.

When I'm being Me, I am doing what I love and the Universe has no choice but to reflect all that I am back at me.

So back to the saying about Rome, I could very well meet someone who speaks English and offers to be my guide so I don't need to speak a word of Italian.

I remember when I went to visit a friend in Thailand. When I didn't see my friend at the airport, I panicked and decided to call her at home. At the pay phone, I realised I didn't have any change on me. As I can't speak any Thai, I couldn't ask anyone for change. Suddenly this Thai guy appeared and handed me his mobile phone and motioned for me to call. There was no response as my friend had already left. I thanked my Thai friend for the use of his phone. It turned out my friend was at the airport, we were just at different exits. And during my stay in Bangkok, I didn't need to speak one word of Thai.

When in Rome, be yourself at all times.
