Transforming Society From Within

I recently read an article in Synchronicity Magazine about the spiritual teacher Krishnamurti that resonated with me. I'll share some of the points from the article here.

What stuck with me is that each of us must follow our own path towards what I would call 'the light'. We each must find our own way, and cannot rely on the prescribed paths of others before us. Here are some selected quotes from the article:

"...'Truth is a pathless land. Man cannot come to it through any creed, through any dogma, priest, or ritual, nor through any philosophical knowledge or psychological technique.' [~Krishnamurti] Anyone who is interested can access the truth of their own lives through direct, unfiltered observation of their own minds during the course of their daily lives, not through intellectual analysis or dissection. Krishnamurti stressed that no one can be lead to self realization by any authority, guru, or even by any established approach - you must discover it on your own de novo. Any prescribed path can only lead to what is already known. Knowledge exists in the realm of thought and time. However, as all the wisdom traditions teach, the truth exists beyond thought and time.

...both the responsibility and power for self discovery rests entirely within us. ...His mantra echoed his commitment to humanity: 'You should be a light unto yourself'. Otherwise, wisdom that is received from without, and not discovered from within is of no value. It cannot lead to the transformation of consciousness that is essential to leading a whole life.

...He posited that real freedom is one that comes from within - a psychological freedom, as opposed to our normal notion of political freedoms at the societal level. ...Krishnamurti frequently stressed the importance of practicing 'choiceless awareness' in our daily existence - this being the equivalent of true freedom.

...Krishnamurti stressed that thousands of years of human experience has adequately demonstrated that attempting to bring about positive change in society by external means (political and social expression) has not made an ounce of difference. Man is still mired in conflict and struggle. The only way we can change society is looking internally by transforming ourselves. For, as he would often say, each one of us is the world and the world is each one of us. His challenge to us was whether we can breakthrough our conditioning, and stop the fear and image making that falsely divide us from each other. We can only come to this through the courage of self observation that will allow us to access self knowledge and true compassion. This will ultimately transform society."

So I guess the good new is, if you truly believe in these ideas, we each have the capacity to change the world from within, one person at a time.

It also encourages me to keep following my own intuition which leads me towards teachings and practices that are uniquely 'right' for me, which in turn lead me to discover for myself, at deeper and deeper levels, the truths that they contain. I keep discovering this over and over, so it all must be 'right' for me.

smiles.....trust whats in you and not whats in other people.....

Thanks swan, justme, and Wanya... I feel the same swan, that a ripple effect is happening all over and more and more are starting to awaken. Justme.. yes, spirituality has to be incorporated into personal experience, I feel, otherwise it falls pretty flat. Wanya.. yes, yes.. being flexible, changing with what is happening ('going with the flow' of things), and being OPEN, and listening to our intuition (attending to what it is trying to tell us)... these are ALL Soooo Important!!! And... YES! Let's ALL send out (((((Positive Energy))))) everywhere we go, in everything we do (as much as we are able)... what a difference this does make! :) Peace and light to all... and (((Hugs))) :)

Vintage Krisnamurti, Dee! I liked reading this,
It may be hard to see yet, but many people seem to be waking up to these realizations. I expect to see a lot more mainstream evidence of this in the next couple of years...
As always, your entries are balm to read... (:>

Thank you all for your comments. I'm glad to see a response to this, because it's something I really believe in. Nuevo and karen... the wonders of Synchronicity never cease to amaze, and as we get to understand at deeper levels the interconnectedness of everyone and everything, these happenings no longer surprise as much and start to become welcome sign posts that we can use to our advantage. I'm learning that intention is so very important, and when we have a pure intention, the universal rhythms will respond and give us just what we need at just the right time. It's a wonderous thing to behold, for sure!
