I Am Pro Choice
From my earliest awareness of the pro life/pro choice issue I have always been firmly pro choice. My body is mine; I never saw how anyone else had a right to say what I could or could not do with it.
More to the point, abortion was a choice I came close to making on more than one occasion.
You see, I was sexually abused by a number of different people. I had no choice in the matter; the people using my body had all the power. I conceived at least twice, by men who saw me only as a thing to use. Fortunately I miscarried.
Had I not, I would have aborted.
Along with the whole conceived-by-an-abuser thing, my body was not healthy enough to carry a child. Even as a teenager I knew this. I also knew that genetically I am not a good prospective parent. But honestly, the main reason was that I couldn't bear the thought of carrying a child conceived by force.
I hear and understand the pro life side of things. You are welcome to your view.
I do not share it.
Should the circumstance arise, I'll be respectful of your views.
Please show me the same courtesy.
