Nobody's Business

A personal story in the experience: I Am Pro Choice
T o this day, I still can't figure out why everyone thinks they need to make laws to control everyone else's lives. I don't think I could get an abortion myself, but other girls have every right to. I am pro choice because if abortion is illegalized, then the girls will obviously try to terminate the baby themselves. It might be successful, and everything could be okay that way. But what if it doesn't work out as planned? They will most likely hurt themselves, and/or have a baby full of birth defects that might just die anyway. So, to make long stories short, legalizing abortion is the only way to go. Having a baby really does change everything, and it really is the mother's choice.

Just remember... we owe our freedom to choose to the people who allowed us to be born.

Round of applause to brimliner. You just came off like all the rest of them as arrogant and self righteous life is not black and white.

I agree with you carixoxo

Self righteous, if you say so. I'll take that as a compliment.

Arrogant, I would say not. It's got nothing to do with me. My comment was humbly referring to our parents and ancestors.

Did I miss something?

Saying someone is self-righteous is not a compliment.

If only the pro-life crowd would spend less time condemning the mothers who make that agonizing choice, and instead spent more time trying to make abortions rare (like pro-choice people do: sex ed, birth control, social safety net, etc) then maybe we'd be a little better off as a society.

VendettA....I believe it really is that simple.
So what is taking so long?

I agree women have the right to decide what to do with their body, however , when a woman is pregnant it is not only her life, but the life of the baby as well, that should be considered.Legalized or not, I just wish people would not choose abortion as the method of choice for birth control.Because sadly, some do, routinely , and abortion is a extreme measure that can not be taken that lightly and irresponsibly.

The percentage of women who use abortion as birth control isn't 0%, but it's gotta be close to that. And it really would be virtually 0% if that person was educated about and had access to birth control, because I don't know any woman that would rather go to a doctors office for an abortion rather than use regular birth control and avoid all of those headaches. That's just beyond stupid, in so many ways.

Not sure I understand, lilt, but I will say that it sickens me how the vast majority of pro-lifers also support abstinence-only sex ed and fight tooth and nail to restrict access to birth control and family planning, and then they also go ahead and attack things like welfare and food stamps for poor, single mothers. They have a tremendous blind spot when it comes to examining the results of their stances. They don't seem to realize that most teenagers are going to want to experiment with sex, no matter how much guilt you give them. And if you keep them stupid about such matters they won't understand birth control options, so now you've got dumb horny kids who, if they do have sex, almost certainly won't be using any protection, and then we have another unwanted pregnancy.

And that's not even the end, because then that average pro-lifer will fight tooth and nail against universal health care and different forms of state aid that go to single, poor mothers. Don't they realize that if more young women (many of whom are stranded by the daddy) knew that they could get healthcare and help that they might actually keep the baby, and not have an abortion out of fear of not being able to take care of it financially?

It's so sickening to see such willful ignorance on a massive scale. Of course this doesn't explain every pro-lifer, but if you look at polling data you see that most pro-lifers are Christians, and that most of them are Republican, and that most Republicans oppose comprehensive sex ed, access to birth control, family planning, universal healthcare, and state aid such as welfare and food stamps.

In every single one of these areas, the "pro-life" stance actually pushes more young women into choosing abortions.

It's complete madness.

Vendetta, I do not know where you got your statistics from but what you stated, and I quote: "The percentage of women who use abortion as birth control isn't 0%, but it's gotta be close to that ", is completely unrealistic and not even remotely accurate , unless of course, you are talking about Utopia which is a place that does not exist on this Planet.
I hate to break your bubble but the number of abortions per day is in the thousands . It is not a rare practice by any stretch of the imagination. It is quite common and its been abused as a way to avoid responsibility.
I am sure many women find it heartbreaking to reach this decision, but others are using abortion routinely as a way of avoiding the responsibility they should have acted with in the first place. And that is what my comment was about. I am sorry to see you missed my point.

I didn't condemn anyone. I just gave some "food for thought".

Life is not so black and white. As underconstruction also noted, there is always more than one victim in a life and death situation. And that should be considered.

Nicely said once again as usual V =)
In terms of the statistics, there are many thrown around out there that contradict each other. The Pro-lifers pump out propaganda and lies about abortions. Majority of abortions are also done in the early first trimester, when many would argue that the growing cells is not yet a life. Most abortions held later in the pregnancy are because of health risks to the baby and mother.

There's a lot of biased info out there. And quite frankly, a lot of lies.

But whatever the statistics, it's always the woman's choice. And no one should argue with that.
