Scottish Dad

my dad was born in Barrhead, Scotland.  How proud I was to grow up half Scotch.  I loved it when he played Irish folk music and Scottish music.  The music, the folk songs were about drinking and folk heroes, battles, loves, gypsies and castles.

my father had bagpipes and my grandmother gave me a kilt that my father had bought for her.  I was very proud of my heritage and still am.

What is the Scottish word for Daddy? Or father? My Scotch heritage is Saxon, so I am wondering if the word father was something very different than the Irish Gaelic word Athair ??
