I Wish I Could Talk To God

Hi there...
I don't identify with any one religion, at least as of now I haven't found the perfect religion for me. However, I am fairly certain that I believe in a loving God. I've tried to pray, talk to God in my head, and write in a notebook, like in the books Conversations With God and Eat Pray Love.
I haven't really had any luck. Has anyone else?
What are your experiences, or lack of, conversing with your God? Do you have any advice?
I'd really like to talk to Him/Her.

talk....even what we feel we think HE listens to us

I feel the same too

I prayed to God for my whole life, He was with me but my sins kept me from Him. The day I prayed and was desperate for help, I just threw the name Jesus out there. I was raised Catholic, but never really believed or understood Jesus. I knew of Him, but thats all. After I gave up everything I knew and found pleasure in, I cried out Jesus name and left with tears soaked in my shirt. The next day I couldn't continue sinning. I just had something stopping me. I used to do anything I wanted, cheating, drugs, drinking, lying, etc with justifying it by my selfish desires. I'd even go as far as saying, this is how God made me. But after I repented and gave everything to God knowing that I have been bad and do not deserve His mercy, EVERYTHING changed. my desires, my life, my habits, and especially my prayers. Now I can see, hear and witness miracles of God, recognize His sovereign power, and feel His love overflow from me to others. He has taught me to be more loving, more forgiving, patient, caring, more charitable, more understanding, less selfish, the list goes on and on, and it just gets better with every hardship. I am learning to trust God more and more whenever a bump in the road shows up. All I can leave you with is that god hears you, try all the religions and save Jesus for last. He does;t mind being a last resort. If you ask with your heart and truly give up everything, He will take over and give you the Holy Spirit. Words cannot describe His love and how powerful it is. Sometimes I am just driving and I will think of Jesus and I will weep out of gratitude for what He has done for me as an individual. I am a former amateur fighter and womanizer. But now, God has given me a new heart, overnight. 10 + 10 = 20, that is the only answer, some answers like 19.5 are close but still wrong, some other answers like 12 are way off. Either way, there is only one way to know, and that is through the Holy Spirit. He will write the love of God on your heart, not through your eyes and ears, but right inside of you. It is the best thing that ever happened to me in my life. It took 34 years for me to find Him, but once it happened, I am in shock every morning on how awesome God's love is and what He did for me on that cross. May God bless you and please continue to seek Him. Be patient and just stay strong, God must answer, but on His clock, not yours.

Matthew 7:7-12
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

“Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

There are many ways to talk to God and like you I have prayed, talk to Him in my head, and wrote down in my journal. There are a lot of times where I didn't hear His voice and I must admit I get discourage when that happens. I try not to stay in this mood for to long because than I start thinking “whats wrong with me” or “did I do something wrong that God is **** with me” which leads to me not talking to God at all.
My advice in this situation is to keep talking to God no matter what happens because He loves us and never gives up on us. Also when you talk to Him just be yourself form a relationship, because in all honesty who would you listen to: a best friend or someone you kind of know. I think some of the best conversations with Him were the ones where I just talk to Him as a good friend instead of 'Oh might Lord, creator of everything, I am not worthy to be in Your presence . . .”

Hi mangoes. To connect with someone & make that person your friend, the 1st thing u need to know is his/her name. You wont really have a close relationship w someone that you call Mister(title) all the time. It is the same with God (title). He wants you to use His name. In the original manusc<x>ripts His Holy name appears 7000 times. Translators thought it would be a great idea to delete it all 7000 times, so no wonder, at times we all feel a yearning to get coser. His name is Jehovah (Yahve). Use it when you pray to Him. You will see how much close &personal it gets.

Look around you, and take it in, go the country and you can so talk to God. HE is so more present there than any where, not that you can't find God elsewhere, but I really think it is easier IN Nature itself. There are no restrictions, its you and him or her. Good Luck!!!!!

Prayer in the simplest way is talking to God.

Hello mangoes. I do talk to god through prayer everyday. People may fail you, including friends and family, but god never fails. The only way to seek God is seeking the truth written in the bible and the true church as stated in the bible. If you need more info, let me know. Here for you.

Well, talking to God is actually harder than it sounds. Any one of those methods you tried works, but the hard part isn't actually talking to Him. The hard part is listening. She communicates to us In many ways. She talks to us as a voice in our head, more often than not this voice sounds as if we are thinking to ourselves and we dismiss it. He can also speak to us through signs or even the people around you. As I said, the hard part is listening.<br />

If you wonder why I use the words "Him" and "Her" interchangeably, it is because I believe in a variation of the Christian "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit" trinity. I believe in the "Father, Mother, and Child." You may not think much of this paragraph, but I just wanted to explain. Feel free to ask about anything of which you are curious.
