The Meaning Of Life...

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light." --Plato

I must say, I agree with Plato on that point. However, I am not so sure he fully comprehended the how tragic the tragedy truelly is! The sad truth is that most of human kind is deeply afraid of the light. Jesus once put it very nice. He said that, "If the light inside of a mans heart is darkness, then how great is the darkness!"

So, let me see...the meaning of life...

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. From the dust we were created, to the dust we will return. Since we were made from the dirt, we will return to the dirt. So, if we were born in darkness...it would make sense that we will die in darkness. Everything we live for will be of the darkness then, even our love was found in the darkness, since darkness is what we were born into.

Think about it...the way we live is based on who holds the greatest darkness! Our peace is depends on who holds the bigger stick! The man who has the biggest guns, rules the block...The country with the most nukes, rules the world. Do you see then how even our light is darkness? Our hope is in our ability to kill! Out peace comes from how efficiently we do so...

So, to me, the meaning of life...is to be born of the light!

That, however, is humanly impossible. A horse cannot give birth to a shark, and darkness cannot produce light. So, since humans are born of the darkness, it is humanly impossible to change this. To change this, we would have to be born of the light...and since our parents are born of darkness, then so are we.

So, by now you might be wondering why I said that the meaning of life is to be born of light. Especially since I backed it up by saying that it is impossible. Well, I am sure a few clever individuals already know were I am going with this. Time to spell out the secret...

The secret is...to be born again! Since darkness does not become light, nor light darkness, then you must be born of the light to have true light! It's that simple, but humanly impossible.

That is why Jesus died for us and rose from the dead! To give to us the greatest gift...the ability to put away the darkness and be born in the light!

Saddly, few are able to accept this gift. Sure, many think they have...but only few of those actually have. In order to accept it, you have to give up what you are used to. Ok, I will make an example. If the world burned and melted all of its weapons, and money, and simply gave to anyone who needed without prejudice...then I would say that the world would have been truely reborn.

On the individual scale, it would mean putting everyone else on the same playing field in your mind that you are.

Love your neighbor as yourself.

34. "That is when the King says to those from his right, 'Come, blessed of my Father, inherit the Kingdom that was destined for you from the foundations of the universe.
35. " 'For I was hungry and you gave me to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me to drink. I was an outcast and you took me in.
36. " 'I was naked and you clothed me. I was ill and you visited me. I was in prison and you came to me. '

Again, best said by Jesus...

That right there is the meaning of life...

The "darkness" you refer to is ego - a standardized psychological construct naturally spawning as the consequence of society. People are not born with it, and it is possible to kill it, although it is not easy. All this talk of light and darkness reminds me of the zen term of duality. It is a way of thinking, and this division is as artificial as ego which is the source of this mode of thinking. So, as society is run by this mode of thinking, why not isolate from it mentally? I mean: secure your money flow and do what you want.

Sweetmeisje, what is between light and dark? Darker light? Brighter Darkness? The darkness is the absence of light. The light is the darkness consumed. Can there be a middle, when light and darkness oppose one another so completely?

The "light" is, not only referring to our Creator, it is our heart and motives. It is also, were you chose to place your hope. If you place your hope in this world and the rules it is ran by, then it is as Jesus said...the light in your heart is darkness! This world revolves around money and power. Those are the rules that run all sociaties. We are taught to take care of ourself, and what's ours...Screw everyone else.
If your greatest hope in life is not living from pay check to pay check, or waiting for your next promotion...well, can't you see how missplaced your faith is? How you hope in the darkness of which you were born?

The darkness is this world, and its system of power, and its rules. The light is the Kingdom of Heaven, and its system of power, and its rules. They are as different as day and night.
Light and darkness.
What I mean by "light" is kinda hard to explain, I hope I did a good job. =/
