Tuned By the Tunes.

It was only recently that I discovered that some people listen to music because they like the sound of the music. This knowledge might well have saved me from an unfortunate period in my teenage years where I looked down on people who liked what I thought was crass music.

When I listen to music that resonates with me, unless I'm careful, I feel myself dragged along by the emotion and the meaning of the song. Because of this, I can find it difficult to listen to music whose emotional core I can't relate to or don't want to get involved with. Music that captures me does so by binding itself to my deepest emotional currents.

It means that music which makes me sad can really drag me down quite dramatically. I used to think this was just part of the craziness of adolescence and that I might have grown out of it, but it turns out this isn't the case.

You'd think I might have learned to use this fact to help me control my moods, but alas, I'm a slow learner.

Actually for quite a while, I was the total opposite , as I used to listen to the music that will lift my spirit up when I'm feeling down , and vice-versa ..
Now, I've become more like you, I listen to music that fits perfectly my mood .. it doesn't always make me sadder if I'm feeling sad for say .. but sometimes it does . still, I'm addicted to music ! ..

You know, when i was depressed as an adolescent- i used to be machoistic about it and listen to depressing music and get MORE depressed...

until i hit rock bottom ...

I'm glad i figured it out.
