Squashing trolls is good. Simply ignoring them also works. Their biggest thrill is getting a rise out of someone. If they fail, they move on because there is no fun in being ignored. It would be different if it was someone who lived next door and if you ignored them they might burn down your house. But this is cyber space. They can try to burn you down. But it will only work if you allow yourself to be burned. I choose not to be burned.

I am a lot like you in some ways. When I get home, the door is closed and locked behind me. I have a large family and socialize with them, but my neighbours are outside acquaintances. We smile, chat, wave good-bye and go our own way.

Then, in August 2010, I got my first computer. And I found EP. Now, I can be as social as I wish, when I wish. My circle is small, by design. I get to know people before I add them to my circle. Once I do that, I try to be social with them. If I then discover that they attract trolls or too much drama, I will back off until they stop trying. Then I remove them from my circle. No hard feelings. Just nothing in common. I try to stay under the radar, trollwise. I never leave a comment on a post that seems trollish. And if a comment that is trollish is left on one of my stories, I simply and quietly block that member. No fight, no drama. I am not here for anything but some quiet social visits.
