Not Nearly Enough Bashing

Honestly, the only Obama bashing I ever hear is from educated people who understand the threat he poses to the constitution and our way of life (eg. free markets, national security, respect of life, gov staying out of our pockets and our lives, positive race relations). The Founding Fathers instituted a system limiting the power of government allowing citizens all sorts of freedoms but guaranteeing them their governement would protect them. Obama has already begun, this early, expanding the control and influence of an enormous government.

I don't trust him for his double talk on race either. I mean this guy had a preacher give the benediction of his innaugration with a racially devisive prayer! I was beside myself hearing that!

He and his accomplices in congress railroaded through the huge spending package without even giving law makers the chance to read it after promising to be a transparent administration.

He said he'd restore people's trust in their government. Then he puts up tax cheats, law breakers, in his cabinet. Did you hear what he said before the election about bankrupting the coal industry? And don't even get me started about his links to those lousy outlaws ACORN.

His VP said Obama would be tested in the early part of his administration. OK, that's expected. But he followed up asking for support saying their solution would not seem like it's good for the country but trust us. That kind of rhetoric, frankly, scares the hell out of me. He can not be trusted.

Free speakers unite! Continue to bash this abomination. Do not be intimidated or discouraged.

finally, someone who doesn't have their eyes closed
:]

Oh bull.
Taxes are the cost of doing business in a society.
What, do you think governance is free?
Try printing your own money, even do a 'gudunken' on the idea of stateless money, and see just how far your dreams of avarice proceed before the entire system breaks down.
"Gold standard"? Try running the current 48 TRILLION dollar a year economy when there is only about 650 BILLION in gold altogether.
The economic collapse brought on by destroying 9 dollars out of 10 would be a catastrophe!
Taxation, once again, is not only not immoral, it is necessary to the preservation of a free state.

No, I didn't say I didn't vote. I voted for the lesser of the evils that still had a chance to win, Senator McCain. Where did you get that idea?

I disagree about taxation being immoral. Government does have a limited role in the order of a society, and for that it must be funded to provide safety and structure for our freedom to flourish. It can't happen without the beneficiaries contributing some amount. Even God only asked the Israelites for ten per cent to give them that safety and structure.

Let me be clear...

Government giving out money to support entities is bad.

Government not taking money from entities is good.

Entities could be organizations, religious bodies, businesses, groups of people or individuals

One caveat, taxation is not immoral or politically wrong, but gov has its assigned place defined in the Constitution.

BTW, I looked at some of your other experiences. You're an interesting fellow. I posted a story in an exp about "sick of people abusing the word socialism", something like that. You might like to read it.

dubiousone, you're a smart ***.

Didn't you read my criticisms above? Tax breaks that free up business to operate is hardly welfare. Welfare is when the gov doles out money to an entity to support it.

If you think the money that the gov was not taking from them is the same as the gov giving them money then you're not working through the problem. That's a lazy but cute argument you made. It's the difference of gov not taking the money and the gov giving more money. Do you get it now?

Same as when a citizen pays no taxes but still gets money from the gov above what income they have earned or begged or whatever. Which by the way is no place for gov to get involved in at all. That's for families to deal with and charities which are established by people who care, in order to take care of the people or issues they care so much about. No need to take from me and other taxed earners to support a woman's baby factory or the KKK or ACORN. Its mission creep. The gov is sticking its nose where the constitution never allowed it to.

Vendetta, I wasn't offended by the "black preacher" as you called him, it was what he said and I didn't think racial slurs against white people are funny. At an auspicious occasion as that was, he was intentionally racist and the liberal media folks who laughed it off, they're par for the self deprecating course. They think they're supposed to let white people get a beating for race relations. Shame on them and shame on the preacher!

I don't listen to tv preachers or follow what they say in their churches except my own. It was the inauguration though and the guy your talking about had the sense and respect for the pluralistic American society to leave that behind.

What the hell are you talking about bringing up Pres. Bush again? I don't know anything about an Arabian, or Arabian horse guy but if you cheat on your taxes you shouldn't be in charge of collecting taxes. It's be like hiring someone with foreign entanglements like your family being paid by foreign governments and dignitaries and being appointed a diplomat or sec of state or something like that. Oops, he did that too didn't he? And shame on the republicans who allowed those clearly conflicting appointments. Shame on them!

I would like to find out if the previous administration committed crimes or trampled the constitution. If they did then they should be exposed and pay for them. To date, I don't think there has been credible evidence of that outside of criticism of the Patriot Act questions. I certainly disagreed with his bailouts at the end of his administration, that's for damn sure!

What should we do then? Reduce government intrusion into our freedoms and pursuit of happiness. Yes, lower taxes, of course you should lower taxes! Why burden the American consumer more with confiscatory taxation at a time when we need to be hiring people for jobs and buying materials and houses and investing in the strong companies. Capital gains tax should be eliminated or at least given a holiday, I don't know how long. Take measures to advance widespread entreprenuership where innovation can blossom and jobs can be created. Yes, drill for and otherwise exploit various energy resources in our fruitful land. Reduce government programs, let charities do what they love to do, help people. Get government out of the mortgage business too. It didn't help matters that the gov pressured banks to make loans to people unworthy of loans. If you're gonna regulate something like that, you do the opposite.

I'm not an economist but I am an intelligent American who cares deeply about your freedom and mine (and put my money where my mouth is eg. volunteer and swore an oath). Obviously you're smart and you care too but why would you want this socialist program to railroad us all and alter our way of life long term for a temporary, though far reaching, economic down turn? I'm just sick about this Pres. and his program to increase gov dependence.

dammit, my response was eaten by EP. oh well, I'll try it again.

Lowery mocked racial stereotypes, exposing their absurdity by dismissing them with rhymes, and that offended you. Gosh, to hear you carry on about how divisive his remarks were, you would have thought he gave a Black Panther speech or something. Like everyone else, I was watching the inauguration. His self-effacing rhyming was well received with laughter, but conservative commentators would have you believe he was trying to start a race riot.

I was not accusing you of being a homophobe, but I did ask, in order to point out how interesting it is that you were so offended by the black preacher and yet had no problems with Rick Warren. Perhaps your only knowledge of Rick Warren comes from Inauguration day, where he abandoned his usual talking points about homosexuals. If you don't know, he's an outspoken homophobe. His presence on that day caused great problems with those parts of Obama's base that care passionately about civil rights and hate discrimination, yet he included Warren as an attempt to compromise with the religious right. What do you think about Warren's views and the choice to conduct the prayer?

You offer sharp criticism of Obama's picks. It's relevant to contrast the problems with his picks with the problems of Bush's picks, especially since their flaws are far worse.

Geitner and Daschle owe back taxes. They both have explanations, but that doesn't change the fact that it's bad to owe back taxes. It's bad. Now, are they qualified for the positions that they were named to? Yes. Even republicans admit that the picks are qualified, but their job is to try to exploit weaknesses in the picks, so that's what they did. Compare that to how Bush handled things, appointing friends and big donors to posts even if they were utterly inexperienced and unequipped to do the job. Did you throw a fit when he named the Arabian horse guy to head FEMA? If not, why not?

And like I said in my post, if you're concerned about the constitution, where were you the last 8 years as Bush and Cheney systematically invented the unitary executive and abused executive privilege to cover up crimes? Are you pissed at everything Bush did? If not, then why not?

And like I also said in my post, if you are against all this big government intervention, then what is it you are proposing that we do? Any ideas? Or do the ideas stop at "criticize everything Obama cuz he's a liberal"?

BTW I'm not homophobe either. Just because I consider incendiary racist remarks to be devisive doesn't make me homophobe. I swear vendetta! Where the hell did you get your reasoning?

Vendetta, are you justifying the comments that the devisive racist preacher made? What did Rev. Warren say at the innauguration that was as evil as this guy said in his prayer? I heard it all and didn't find anything offensive that Warren said.

Bush didn't do so hot on some of his appointment either. Why attack my legit arguement using the straw man arguement? It's a logical fallacy.

I was commenting on the words I heard the candidate Obama say from his own mouth. I heard the whole conference he had with the people around the table and everything. Did you see and hear it or just read about it? He said he would do it. Did you notice that Geithner is trying to bring back taxes on domestic energy producers now? He'll stop tax subsidies that have ensured lower prices for natural gas and domestic petroleum products. His reason? Energy producers contribute to global climate change. What a moron to buy into his crony Al Gore's money making scheme. Anyway, he's going to kill jobs with that and raise prices on fuel and still not impact use, unless hisplan is to raise prices so high that everyone has to ride bikes to work. That's not unlike a radical of Obama's type.

ACORN is breaking into private property and squatting. And if they fraudulantly acquired their funding by registering fraudulant names, are you justifying that? They're outlaws.

I'm serious about these people. Just watch, I don't believe America will give him a pass on this. I just hope Obama doesn't harm our country and constitution so much the we can't get free in 2010 and 2012.

Honestly, for someone who claims to care about the constitution, you're a little late. Eight years of Bush/Cheney has done more to shred that document than any other president since the Civil War.

You apparently are against "Big" government. What would you propose we do to deal with our current economic meltdown? We lost 600,000 jobs in January. Even more in February. The Republican leadership has offered zero recommendations besides tax cuts for the rich (Big surprise there!) and doing "nothing". The government is the only entity large enough to make any impact on the economy. What would you suggest?

What's the big deal with race? You ob<x>ject to the benediction. I ob<x>ject to Pastor Warren, the poster boy for the homophobes of America, giving the prayer. Did you ignore Warren's presence? Too busy scaring yourself about the benediction? Does this mean you are a homophobe?

He is being transparent. You can track where all the money is going, it's all on the recovery's website. How is it his problem that the Republicans were too busy huffing and puffing in front of the cameras to read the bill? He cannot make them read it.

Again, I'd say that if you are going to complain about an administration not being transparent, you missed the boat. Bush and Cheney operated the office of the Presidency under a veil of secrecy that we're still trying to uncover. Pay attention in the news, Karl Rove and Harriet Myers are going to have to testify before the judiciary.

Complaining about the tax cheats.... *yawn* Is this the best complaint you've got? Bush appoints the Arabian horse guy with no experience to head FEMA and a major US city drowns... where was your outrage over that? "Heckuva job, Brownie!"

Bankrupting the coal industry.... did you bother to read the entire story on this to see the context? Of course not. Obama was talking about how we must develop renewable sources of energy and how this can have multiple benefits, both economically and environmentally. If a company refuses to adapt to rising consumer demand for clean energy, they will fail. Where's the controversy?

ACORN...I swear you must be getting these talking points directly from Hannity/O'Reilly/Rush. Are you on their emailing list?

ACORN was guilty of voter registration fraud, not voter fraud. Details, details. When you pay employees by volume to collect registrations, some of those employees are going to try to cheat. They will make up names in order to make more money from ACORN. They might register Mickey Mouse. Where's the harm in that? Unless someone shows up to vote in that district with the name of Mickey Mouse, then the only crime that has been committed is AGAINST ACORN, not BY ACORN. They were the victims of registration fraud, and yet the right wing goes nuts and says "VOTER FRAUD! VOTER FRAUD!" It's quite pathetic.

Good question. I did vote but I wasn't happy with the options. Best of the worst was McCain. At least he wouldn't nationalized our economy and put tax cheats in cabinet positions. He'd also not buddy up to hostile forces like giving Hamas nearly a billion dollars. Not much better but at least not ruining us any further.

Wish we had Romney or Giulliani or better yet Newt Gingrich.

Who would you have voted for?
