Social Phobia

I just looked up symptoms for social phobia and i have most of the symptoms. There are one or two that i don't have. I would appreciate help in dealing with this... 'problem'. My mom doesn't understand why i don't do stuff in public. When i go to meetings (church) I try to answer and i'm fine until a few minutes before i raise my hand to speak my answer into the microphone. After the few calm moments i become scared and i panic. While i answer into the microphone my face begins to blush, once i finish i look a tomato. It feels like my breathing stops and anxiety takes me over. And when my mom took me to aqua aerobics or zumba i didn't move at all. I'm afraid of being noticed, or being glanced at, if a group of people notice me i instantly blush. No matter what i do i cant stop myself from being so afraid, if i work up the courage to do something it diminishes the moment i make move. Are there any breathing exercises, what do i do? If age depends, i'm 15 in June. Please help, i don't want to disappoint my mom anymore with my fears. jjklm

i am 17 now and have been dealing with this healthily since i was 15 (i used to smoke marijuana and drink to take the "edge" off)

Since i am actually dealing with it, i have really hard days, and really good days. I have been practicing meditation and it has helped a lot, though right now, i haven't any friends.

The funny thing is, i can be open and loud around People that are like 10+ years older then me. I guess in my mind somewhere i am intimidated by my peers. What got me wanting to get better, was when really old and wise people started telling me how much i make them think, and how what i say could make so much change in the world!

In the 6 months that i have been meditating, i can see that i have healthy reasoning skills which is really good because you know when you are safe! you know that your fight or flight mode is being out of control, so with each and every day i sense my body's reactions are getting milder! ,

There is actual scientific proof that meditation helps with health problems (mental, physical and spiritual)

When we meditate, it is thought as if we are with "God" or the "Divine", whatever you believe, it does not mess with your religion ( some people think its just a Buddhist ritual, but it is for everyone and anyone)

I took a Meditation coarse through a psychologist in my home town. I was surrounded by many people, they were all about 20 years older then me, and had gone through lots of trauma in their lives. Over a 10 week period, i witnessed them and myself grow into healthy people. It was the most strange and mind boggling experience.

Meditation is a life long process, and everyone moves at their own pace, and is a very hard process.
I hope you find a way out of your anxieties, just make sure that you want for yourself to be better, and not just because of your mum, or it will be extremely difficult for you to get better. I hope i helped :)

Thanks for sharing that info. Well, I am going back to counseling again. I had graduated before, but I found out I really do have social phobia, and the panic attacks I get from social phobia are taking over my life. So I'm getting help. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

yourwelcome :) hope all goes well with council
