That Early Morning Call

If my phone rang unexpectedly in the early hours I think I may panic as I would assume that the news I was about to receive would be bad news.

I'll always remember though around 10 years ago when a dear friend of mine died very suddenly. I told one of my two closest friends at the time that the hardest time of the day for me was 3.15. I was very specific! I said this was because everyone I knew was sleeping at that time. She told me she was a very light sleeper and often up during the night. She added that if I ever felt the need just call her at any time day or night. Having permission to do this was fantastic. I did in fact call her once and immediately apologised for disturbing her. I knew though that I'd do exactly the same for any friend who was in the first stages of grieving so I didn't feel too bad really about making that call.
