"sets" Of Belief?

Religion to me sounds like the lazy way out!

I know this will make a lot of people angry. Life is a quest. Okay, I see life as a quest :)

It is a challenge to figure out who you are, and what you believe.

If your beliefs align with a religion then why not. But why must we decide to "convert" or accept all beliefs from a religion? Why is devotion determined that way? It makes very little sense.

If I "had to be religious", say on threat of death, I would probably pick one of the polytheistic religions, which afford some leniency. Unless of course someone came along telling me I was a bad practitioner for not believing in every single deity in that set! :) Also I would probably not be much more than a token practitioner, because the decisions of what to believe and how would be made for me.

Why pick a set at all... is it not more fulfilling to come to your own conclusions, on your own time, by yourself?

The need to have someone organize your world is strong. That is why some cannot face the world after leaving the family nest... and forgo their freedom by joining a religion.

I am saddened to think of all the children raised in religious contexts that do not feel free to make their own choices, for most of them, these were taken away from them.

Freedom of choice is scary, but perhaps by following your guts, you can make decisions that suit you amidst the chaos. Wouldn't you want to have the whole palette of possible choices to pick from, rather than a restrained set?

Wow! I agree with you, too. In life we strive to find ourselves and our experiences guide us on that path. I cannot accept religeon because it tries to control us as well as being misused as an excuse for speading hate and pain. I am using my free will to find myself.

The truth! That is something that is scary to most. It seems everyone's idea of truth can be a hurdle to overcome by others. Maybe those who haven't reached the same... "level", I'm tempted to say.
Why must it seem so? Anyone have an idea?

Thank you!! You're my first comment! :)
So you have also come to see life by yourself?
