Heard this, but I doubt things like it are limited to Republicans in the Army. At least it's better than the old LSD tests on innocent civilians.

You are making several assumptions that are not supported by the facts of the article, assuming they are true and factual --

First, You assume the purpose is to keep the Afghan war running. However, in as much as President Obama, (Dem) has said that withdrawal from Afghanistan is dependent upon the Afghan Government's ability to take over all functions of governing and defense, and the US is providing the training and infrastructure to achieve those objectives, the objective could equally be to complete the mission so the war can be brought to an end.

Second, the article above does not say anything about "bogus charges," but rather says he was "railroaded. I can tell you from personal military experience that almost any officer refusing an order of his subordinates will be "railroaded," but that does not equate to "bogus charges." The superiors believe that their order was a lawful order. Refusal to carry out the lawful order of a superior is a serious offense. If there is any ambiguity in the lawfulness of the order, the subordinate always gets screwed. Its human nature and every officer is aware that if they refuse an order, they are going to be railroaded and must be willing to accept the consequences and prepared to fight a very long and arduous battle.

Finally, you assume that Republicans and conservatives support the war in Afghanistan. Liberals want it both ways. Liberals complained when Bush decided to press the fight against islamist terrorism starting with Iraq, not Afghanistan. Bush chose not to fight an all out and protracted war in Afghanistan because his conservative advisers told him no nation has ever been victorious in war in Afghanistan and the chances of our success are extremely low. I am a conservative and a Republican and I opposed extending and expanding the war in Aghanistan while I supported the war in Iraq.

Three of your assumptions are in error.

When the officer refused to comply with using psyops on our Senators his superiors filed bogus charges against him in retaliation to get him discharged. Shades of the Pat Tillman and Abu Ghrabi incidents.

Don't think it's the "cut and run" liberals obsessed with keeping the Afghan war running.

Someone please explain to me why this story is listed under "I Am Starting To Think Republicans Are Actually Evil." The story seems to document an officer who is overzealous, looking for ways to increase his budget and staff, a subordinate officer who refused what he found to be an unlawful order, and an operation that was targeted at both Democrat and Republican legislators.

Furthermore, the article provides no specific information as to the kinds of activities that were requested or the Information Operations that were planned and/or executed against the legislators. I can certainly envision a superior officer using the skills of an IO organization to provide information briefings identifying the target legislators interests and "hot buttons." That would not be an inappropriate use of their skills and resources. However, if someone sought to present erroneous or misleading information to the legislators, that would be clearly inappropriate and unlawful. Finally, there is probably a wide "Grey area" between these two that may or may not be inappropriate or illegal.

Readers need to apply "Critical Thinking" when reading something like this that may or may not describe something that was either inappropriate or unlawful.

I heard this on the radio this morning. It's amazing on the one hand - then, after you think about it for a few minutes, maybe not so surprising after all. But, of course, most people have no clue this type of thing goes on.
