You are smart and articulate. You have a different listening style. Also, you have a different learning style. What happened in the past are examples of mismatched communication styles and incompatible instruction styles. Do you know what you have in common with scientists and inventors? Doing things over and over and over again. Do you know what they do that you are not doing?

Write or record each event. Einstein and Alexander Graham Bell, for instance, repeat doing things even when something explodes or someone gets irritated with them. You, too, my friend, might start writing down an instruction or activity you have to do, how you actually carried it out, and the actual outcome. If an instruction or procedure are visually rich, such as step-by-step pictures or numbered according to sequence with diagrams or pointing arrows, choose that or request that. If they cannot do it for you, you can break down the instructions by writing it down in numbered steps. Tell them to wait if you need time to get the sequence right before carrying out the procedure. If that is not feasible, ask them to give you a dry-run or a coaching session with hands-on run for that particular task. At the end of the task or at the end of the day, read your notes. You'll stumble upon some "Aha!" moments and that will make you feel better about handling other tasks.

You are not ordinary. You are EXTRAORDINARY. The communication or instruction style of people in the past did not match with your listening style and learning style. My learning style is 80% coaching but sometimes aural and sometimes visual; it depends on what kind of activity and what type of environment I find myself involved in. See, there is no use in comparing yourself to others because everyone is differently made. You are wonderfully made. You are wonderfully made. You are wonderfully made. You are wonderfully made. You are wonderfully made. You are wonderfully made. YOU ARE WONDERFULLY MADE.

I dont think you are stupid, just by reading how well articulated your posts are, I think you are rather afraid of something. Perhaps you were told by others you are stupid, and useless, but it is not the case.
