Back in the '70's there were a series of strikes by power workers. Added to that a shortage in oil. So for a brief period Britain only had power for a certain amount of time each day.
And the oil shortage meant you could only get gas (petrol) on certain days! And even then it was rationed. This was all to do with a big war in the Middle East, and labour unrest at the time.
So we got used to having no power. No tv. Refrigerator. Cooker. Hot water. And so on.
Don't take it for granted. Days like that can always return!
